Southern Belle Genealogy was born on March 29, 2023 in Olney, Texas. But my story goes waaaay back. Think 1992. Nerdy girl. Coke bottle glasses. History buff. Lover of the past. Nancy Drew devotee. That's me. Sonya Kay King Bernhardt (if you want the specifics), private-eye wanna-be, and genealogist hopeful. I remember loving history in junior high. My teacher was Coach Allen because in the South all the coaches get the history classes. Fast-forward to college. I faced one of the most crucial decisions known to man-kind, "What do you want to major in?" Being young and naïve, I chose Business Administration; trivializing what I was truly passionate about, history.  In 2009, I began constructing family trees and researching my loved ones from the past. This past-time spread like wildfire as I honed my investigative research skills. In 2022, I enrolled in Boston University's genealogical program and am currently in the process of obtaining my certification from the Board for Certification of Genealogists. And this is where you come in!
